England dominate at Lord’s to seal WTC series against Pakistan
The hosts followed up their Leeds victory with another comprehensive display to seal the series at home.
England wrapped up a dominant victory at Lord’s to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, bowling Pakistan out for 194 to win by the same margin. Ollie Robinson continued his excellent form with the ball, while Mohammad Abbas impressed for Pakistan with nine wickets in the Test.
The win has helped Englnad move above Sri Lanka in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 standings.
England resumed their second innings with Dan Lawrence unbeaten on 50 overnight, but his stay was ended early when he inside-edged Mohammad Abbas onto his stumps. Having previously claimed three four-wicket hauls at Lord’s, Abbas finally went one better when Ollie Robinson edged behind to Mohammad Rizwan.
Josh Tongue then added a couple of boundaries to England’s lead before his innings concluded due to a direct hit from Babar Azam.
Abbas finished with nine wickets, narrowly missing out on a second Test ten-wicket haul, while England set Pakistan 389 to win.
Pakistan’s chase got off to a difficult start. Azan Awais, who had top-scored with a fighting 46 in the first innings, again showed plenty of some before Ollie Robinson accounted for him with one that struck his back pad.
Robinson then produced another fine delivery to dismiss Abdullah Shafique, angling the ball in before it seamed away late and crashed into the top of off.
Babar Azam arrived with Pakistan at 7/2, but his stay lasted only two overs. Jofra Archer produced a fierce, rib-high bouncer which Babar attempted to pull, only for the ball to pop up off the edge and helmet for Jordan Cox to take the catch at third slip.
At 14/3, Pakistan needed a partnership and Saud Shakeel and Shan Masood provided it. The pair added 97 for the fourth wicket, taking Pakistan to 111/3 at Lunch.
England then struck twice in quick succession through Robinson, removing Masood and Mohammad Rizwan. Shakeel continued to hold the innings together, finding a willing partner in Ali Usman as Pakistan tried to stay in the contest.
Archer eventually ended Usman’s resistance after Tea, finding the inside edge and toppling the stumps. Shakeel then moved rapidly towards his century, hitting two sixes and a four off Tongue to reach 96.
But Tongue had the final say. Shakeel attempted another pull from a short ball and picked out Harry Brook at deep square leg, departing for a valiant 97 from 122 balls.
There was little resistance after that as Pakistan were bowled out for 194, handing England a comprehensive 194-run victory at Lord’s.
The result gives England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series after their innings victory in Leeds. The final Test will be played at Edgbaston from September 9.
