England name Bashir’s replacement for fourth India Test

The hosts were dealt an injury blow during the Lord’s Test win as off-spinner Shoaib Bashir sustained a fracture in his left hand.

England have called up Liam Dawson into their squad for the fourth Test against India as a replacement for Shoaib Bashir, who had been ruled out for the remainder of the series following England’s thrilling win at Lord’s.

Bashir had picked up an injury in his left hand while fielding during the third Test and was forced off the field on Day 3. The 21-year-old would eventually nab the final wicket to hand England a famous win.

The 35-year-old has been rewarded for his form in the ongoing County Championship season, where he boasts 21 wickets from nine outings for Hampshire.

"Liam Dawson deserves his call-up. He has been in outstanding form in the County Championship and consistently puts in strong performances for Hampshire," England Men's National Selector Luke Wright said on his inclusion.

England are 2-1 up in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship series, after clinching a nail-biter at Lord's.

The two teams will next square up in the fourth Test starting 23 July at Old Trafford, Manchester.
