England name stand-in captain for Ireland ODI series
England will host Ireland in a three-match ODI series in the first week of September.
Charlie Dean is set to lead England in the absence of regular captain Nat Sciver-Brunt in the three-match ODI series at home against Ireland, starting 1 September.
Dean has deputised for Sciver-Brunt in the past, most recently during the ODI series against New Zealand in the lead-up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.
Sciver-Brunt is among several notable absentees from the squad, with Danni Wyatt-Hodge also managing her fitness and recovery. Amy Jones, Sophie Ecclestone and Lauren Bell also miss out as England look to broaden their talent pool in the ODI setup.

In Jones’ absence, Alice Capsey is set to take up wicketkeeping duties for England.
Seam bowler Grace Potts and wicketkeeper-batter Kira Chathli are the two uncapped players in the squad, while all-rounder Charis Pavely, who has two T20I appearances to her name, is also in line to make her ODI debut.
Ryana MacDonald-Gay, who last played white-ball cricket for England in 2024 after making her debut in the same year, also makes a return to the squad following her recovery from a lower back injury.

Speaking on the squad selection, head coach Charlotte Edwards said: “It has been an incredible summer for Women’s Cricket already, and these three ODI matches against Ireland make up an important series for us to complete our summer.
“The focus has rightly been on T20 cricket for much of this year, but with a memorable run to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final now behind us, this is a chance for players to display their 50-over skills and bank some valuable experience for the future.
“We have got plenty of exciting and talented cricketers in our game and this is an opportunity for some of them to push themselves further forward by hopefully contributing to England victories and putting pressure on future selection.”
