The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016 has approved Chad Classen as a replacement player for Conner McKerr in South Africa’s squad for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016.

McKerr is unable to take any further part in the tournament after suffering a back injury.

Any injury or illness-based replacement requires a written submission to the Event Technical Committee along with a diagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of the injury or illness. Once replaced, a player may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another injured or ill player.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2016 includes ICC General Manager – Cricket, Geoff Allardice, ICC Head of Events, Chris Tetley, host nominees Mahbubul Anam and Mohammed Jalal Younus, and independent nominees and former international cricketers Russel Arnold and Dominic Cork.

South Africa defeated Scotland on Tuesday to finish third in Group A. It will now face Ireland in the Plate Championship quarter-final in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.
