Ex-Australia all-rounder to lead Portugal at T20WC Qualifier

Moises Henriques will begin his stint as Portugal captain at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier C for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Henriques played 44 matches for Australia across the three formats and even captained the country at the ICC Men's Under-19 Cricket World Cup back in 2006.

Having retired from first-class cricket in Australia earlier in the year and qualifying to play for Portugal by virtue of being born in the country, Henriques will lead his new side in this month's ICC Men's T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Europe Qualifier C event, which will be held in Finland.

The event features 10 teams, with the winner of the tournament progressing through to the regional final as they keep trying to qualify for the 2028 edition of the Men's T20 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Portugal are drawn in Group B at the European Qualifier alongside Czech Republic, Germany, Greece and Israel, with the top-placed team then taking on the highest-placed side from Group A – consisting of hosts Finland, Bulgaria, Isle of Man, Luxembourg and Spain – for their chance to progress.

For the first time, all Finland matches in the tournament will have Finnish commentary on ICC.tv and YLE Areena, the online streaming and catch-up service of the Finnish Public Broadcaster.

All the matches of the Qualifier will be available to watch on ICC.tv.
