The 2009 Pepsi ICC EAP U15 Cricket 8s Trophy began in perfect conditions in Jakarta today, with rounds 1 and 2 now completed.

Tournament hosts Indonesia sit on top of the table with two wins, as do Samoa, while PNG and Vanuatu both have one win each having had a bye. Tonga, Japan and Fiji have their work cut out after being beaten in their first two matches.

But the star of Day 1 was young female Indonesian opening bowler Adriani who bowled superbly in both matches, collecting seven wickets along with two Player of the Match awards.

Indonesia began the tournament in fine style with a convincing six wicket win over Japan in Round 1 at Cibubur, before knocking off Fiji in Round 2 by seven wickets, chasing down the required 68 runs in just 7.2 overs.

The other unbeaten team after Round 2 is Samoa, having beaten Fiji and Japan respectively. Fiji set a respectable target of 68 in Round 1, however Samoa were up to the challenge, reaching the target with 10 overs to spare and five wickets in hand.

In Round 2, Samoa batted first against Japan, scoring 147 runs all-out, with Tautajaso scoring a quick-fire 39 and Tini knocking up 27. While Japan made a valiant attempt, they were eventually bowled out for 102 in the 20th over.

In an entertaining first day of competition, Indonesia and Samoa have stamped their authority on the tournament with commanding wins, while PNG and Vanuatu are close behind with one win a-piece having had the bye.
