Pakistan captain Sahibzada Farhan broke the record for the most runs in a bilateral three-match T20I series between two Full Members as his side fell to an eight-wicket defeat against Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I in Rawalpindi.

Farhan hit his third consecutive half-century to take his tally to 238 runs across the series, before Sri Lanka chased down Pakistan's total of 168/8 with 17 deliveries remaining at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

It mattered little for Pakistan, who had already previously wrapped up the series on home soil following a pair of dominant performances in the opening two fixtures.

It was also a big reward for Farhan, who led Pakistan superbly across the three games to surpass the previous record for the most runs in a three-match men's T20I series between two Full Members.

Abhishek previously held the record of 229 runs which he scored against Afghanistan earlier in the year, with Farhan overtaking the efforts of the India opener early in the contest against Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

PLAYER RUNS
Sahibzada Farhan (Pakistan) 238 v Sri Lanka, 2026
Abhishek Sharma (India) 229 v Afghanistan, 2026
Colin Munro (New Zealand) 223 v West Indies, 2023/24
David Warner (Australia) 217 v Sri Lanka, 2019

Despite the loss in the series finale, Farhan was satisfied with the efforts of his side across the three matches.

"The way we set a superb target in the first two matches, today also we had the same plan, but it's cricket, anything can happen," Farhan said post-match.

"The effort is to stay consistent. When I perform well, I'm even more focused to do well in the next match. It's cricket, you're not always in form. So I'm looking to make the most of it."

Pakistan's top-order batter Sahibzada Farhan rewrote the record books with his 383 runs in the 2026 edition of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He has now the most runs for any player in the Men's T20 World Cup.

Kusal Mendis was adjudged Player of the Match in the series finale for his quickfire innings of 87 from just 47 deliveries and the Sri Lanka captain was pleased with the response from his side.

"We bowled really well today in the middle period," Mendis said.

"The fielding was better too, and the batting was excellent. Kamindu (Mendis) batted really well after the Powerplay. He played his natural game, and I did too. We did really well in all three departments."
