Fast bowler added to England squad ahead of Lord's Test

Gus Atkinson added to England's 16-player squad for the third Test against India.

England have reacted quickly to their loss against India in the second Test in Edgbaston by adding fast bowler Gus Atkinson to their squad for the third Test at Lord's.

Atkinson injured his hamstring when playing the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in May, but the 27-year-old has now recovered from the ailment and will come into contention for the third ICC World Test Championship contest that commences in London on Thursday.

England announced a 16-player squad for the third Test just hours after they fell to India by 336 runs in Birmingham and skipper Ben Stokes suggested changes may be made to his side as they attempt to rebound quickly from the disappointing loss.

"It's no secret that we have spent some time in the field and bowled some overs in the first two games, and we'll have to see how everyone pulls up over the next two days," Stokes said.

"With it being a quick turnaround, there probably will be a decision we have to make given how everyone does pull up after this game."

"Everyone's in consideration for the game at Lord's."

Alongside Atkinson, England could recall fellow fast bowler Jofra Archer for the Lord's contest, while young batter Jacob Bethell may also come into contention if the side wishes to rejig their top six.

Stokes wants England to move on quickly from the poor performance at Edgbaston, with the series evenly poised at 1-1 with three matches still remaining.

"We've obviously had some unbelievable wins and some bad defeats," he said.

"I feel I'm quite good - and the team is - at staying level throughout those ups and downs.

"That is so important in a series where we knew coming in that it wasn't going to be easy… We have to wipe this one under the carpet as quickly as we can, because Lord's day one will be coming around pretty quickly. We will have one or two days to get the bodies right and recover, and all of a sudden, we will be out there flipping the coin."
