Fiji Easter Final to be Broadcast Live
This year's LICI Cricket Fiji Easter Tournament is set to reach every corner of the country following an historic arrangement with local media outlets.
Cricket Fiji is delighted to announce that both Fiji TV and FBC Radio will telecast and broadcast Monday afternoon's final live across Fiji from Albert Park.
Cricket Fiji chief executive Jon Symonds said he was thankful to both outlets for the arrangement.
"It's a milestone in Cricket Fiji's history that a cricket match is being screened live on free-to-air TV and being covered live on the radio and hopefully reinforces the exciting period cricket finds itself in right now in Fiji," Symonds said.
FBC chief executive Riyaz Sayed Khaiyum said their decision to broadcast the final reiterated their commitment and support of minor sports in Fiji.
"I am extremely delighted that we at FBC are able to carry live the most important cricket event in Fiji," Khaiyum said.
"It gives me more excitement as I am an ardent cricket fan and to have local cricket air on radio live after years is an historic moment for us at FBC."
"When this idea was floated, we were very keen to ensure that we did this and with teams from the islands taking part, it will be ideal for the fans in those islands to follow their teams through this coverage of the final and all pool games, for which we will have intensive in-depth coverage."
"We hope this partnership with Cricket Fiji and FBC continues to grow."
Fiji TV news, current affairs and sport manager Tukaha Mua said this was a first for the station and they were busy preparing and training staff for the game.
"It's a good starting point, particularly on the back of the World Cup broadcast," Mua said.
"It's a breakthrough for us and for cricket in this country and we've been working together with Cricket Fiji to help make this a reality.
"We've been doing a daily build up to the Easter tournament so our commitment is very strong."
Fiji TV's coverage will be live from Albert Park at 1.15pm, while FBC will begin its broadcast at 1.20pm
Cricket Fiji is constantly grateful for the support received from all Fijian and international media outlets to promote the game here and hopes to continue to build these relationships.
