Cricket Fiji has announced their squad for the Under-17 East Asia Pacific Cricket Trophy, which takes place in September in Vanuatu.

With a selection including players from Suva, Nadi, Lauotka, Moce and Komo, the squad highlights the progress being made in developing cricket throughout Fiji in recent times.

Omid Saberi will take charge of the squad as coach for the first time, having been part of the Fiji Blues training squad for a number of years before taking on the role of coaching senior representative teams, most recently with the Suva Capitals at the Fiji Games.

Cricket Fiji General Manager Martin Shaw has high hopes for the team they will be sending out to Vanuatu.

"This is a young squad that we have selected with several of the players still eligible for the next Under-17 tournament in two years time," Shaw explained. "But they have a great deal of potential. As we keep working with them in the coming years they should progress into a very strong team."

The team will depart on September 5th for a tournament that will also include Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and Indonesia.
