Fiji's Finest Arrive in Suva
Fiji's best cricket teams have begun arriving in Suva this week for the LICI Cricket Fiji Easter Tournament that hits off in just a few days.
Already docking in Suva this week are the six eastern teams from Lau: Lakeba, Oneata, Moce, Komo, Namuka I Lau and Kabara.
Lakeba Coach Isoa Suka, said the team is ready this year and confident it will take away the finals trophy.
"Our aim is to take the trophy this year, We've come prepared because we don't think they can beat us."
"We're not worried about any team. The team has been camping for the last three weeks at Tubou, and training and practicing. Our only concern is the ground conditions because cricket is not played in the bad weather and ground conditions like this on Lakeba."
Moce Coach and Cricket Fiji Development Officer, Cakacaka Sau who is based in Lau and his team are also focused on taking away the champion's trophy.
"We plan to reach the final and want to do better than last year," he said, referring to their second place in the competition in 2011.
"This year we want to get first, we've been at camp for three weeks at Nasua, and have had rules of no smoking and training every morning and afternoon."
Cakacaka said the team's good health will be the secret ingredient to winning this year's competition.
"At camp we made the team healthy, especially their eyes so they can see the ball better," he said.
12 local and overseas teams will compete at the international LICI Cricket Fiji Easter Tournament that will run from 2-9 April this year.
The prestigious Cricket Fiji annual awards will also be held during the week, on Saturday 7 April, to recognize the best from across the nation.
