Five India and Australia players that boosted their 2024 T20 World Cup prospects

We look at five players that boosted their chances of appearing for their country at the 2024 showpiece.

The young right-armer continues to impress at international level and was the clear standout for India during the five matches as he deservedly claimed the Player of the Series award.

Bishnoi picked up a total of nine wickets from the five games - three more scalps than any other player - and his economy rate of just 8.20 was the second best of any India bowler.

While Bishnoi is likely to be battling it out with the likes of Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin for a couple of slow bowling slots at next year's T20 World Cup, the 23-year-old has already shown he is more than capable of holding down the vital role.

A key member of Australia's pace attack at the 2019 edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, Behrendorff put his name in lights yet again with a standout performance in India.

The experienced left-armer claimed six wickets during four appearances in the series, with his best spell coming in the fourth match when he collected 2/32.

But the most impressive contribution Behrendorff made for his side was his miserly economy rate, with the 33-year-old giving up just 6.68 runs per over - easily the best for all of Australia's bowlers - in a series that was dominated by the batters.

While Australia have good depth in their bowling attack, Behrendorff could prove a shrewd selection for next year's T20 World Cup if selectors decide to go down that path.

On face value Rinku's 105 runs from four hits during the series doesn't immediately catch the eye, but when you delve that little bit further then the efforts of the hard-hitting left-hander display an important factor that could prove vital for India at next year's T20 World Cup.

Rinku's strike rate of 175 when batting was better than any other India player and his efforts to close out innings by reaching the boundary really stood out during each of his knocks.

The 26-year-old proved the match-winner in the opening game of the series when he kept his cool to deliver when it mattered on the final delivery of the contest, while his 31* from just nine deliveries in the ensuing clash catapulted India to a massive total of 235/4.

There's no doubt India selectors would love to have Rinku's boundary-hitting exploits available in the USA and West Indies next year.

Despite just nine international appearances to his name, the young Australian spinner is already putting together an excellent resume that shows he is a promising player for the future.

Sangha appeared in all five matches in India, claiming a total of five wickets with his best haul an effort of 2/30 in the fourth game of the series.

Only two of Australia's wicket-takers during the series bowled with a more efficient economy rate and Sangha has enough weapons in his armoury to prove difficult for opposition batters in the USA and West Indies if chosen.

While Sangha is likely to be behind first-choice spinner Adam Zampa in the pecking order for Australia spinners, he looks the logical choice to travel as his back-up.

India are well stocked for top-order batting options in the shortest format of the game and Gaikwad continues to show his wares when given the chance at international level.

The right-hander was India's only century maker during the T20I series as he amassed a superb 123* in the third match of the series and his total of 223 runs was easily the most of any player over all five contests.

Gaikwad also finished inside the top 10 for all run-scorers at last year's edition of the IPL and could easily partner skipper Rohit Sharma at the top of India's batting order at next year's T20 World Cup should selectors opt to go down that path.
