Getting good support from Ishant: Zaheer

Indian pace spearhead Zaheer Khan has lauded his teammate Ishant Sharma for providing him with good help from the other end while bowling.

India is currently gearing up for a five-match limited-overs series in Sri Lanka which will be followed by a Twenty20 International.

Asked how the Indian team would adapt to the conditions in Sri Lanka, the current most successful bowler seemed confident that his team would live up to expectations.

“We have returned from a tour of Sri Lanka just 4-5 months back. So in a way we are quite familiar with the conditions. It won’t be a problem for us,” said Zaheer at a promotional event in Mumbai.

India’s senior-most bowler has been getting a good helping hand from his partner at the other end, Ishant Sharma. The southpaw was quick to accept Ishant’s contribution to the team.

“I am getting good help from the other end in Ishant. He has been doing really well and is very hard working.”

Zaheer recently helped Mumbai to a record 36th Ranji Trophy title with some disciplined bowling, so he was quick to admit that even though India have not played cricket since last month, he was in good touch.

"I bowled a lot of overs in the semi-final and final of the Ranji Trophy which Mumbai won recently. I am in touch with the game and in good rhythm too."

The tour to Sri Lanka will be followed up by a tour to New Zealand - a place where India has not garnered the best results in the past. As it follows close on the heels of the Sri Lanka tour, India will not have much time to prepare for their tour to New Zealand.

However Zaheer Khan feels that this won’t be a problem for India.

“I don’t think that would matter because we have been playing a good number of matches and we have to continue doing well,” said the left-armer.
