'Goal is to play the T20 World Cup' – Chris Lynn
Lynn has a fearsome reputation in the shortest format of the game, one he has developed through blistering performances in T20 leagues around the world. In 162 matches in the shortest format, he has raked up 4425 runs at 32.53, striking at an impressive 141.96.
The 29-year-old hasn't quite been able to replicate that kind of success in the international arena, but now is as good a time as any to set things straight as there's the chance of playing a home World Cup at hand.
The T20 World Cup carnival is coming to Australia!
"It is a priority, it is a goal to play the 2020 T20 World Cup," Lynn told News Corp’s Cricket Unfiltered podcast. "I’d love to be a part of it. I hit the ball well in the IPL, which was my last tournament, and I’m looking to build on that over the next couple of tournaments. Try and dominate the Big Bash like I did a couple of years ago."
Lynn will also hope to stay free of injury. He's had more than his fair share of concerns, with the shoulder an area of particular vulnerablity, but he feels a lot stronger now.
"It's been a roller-coaster four years, I reckon. I've had two reconstructions on my left side, and I probably need one on my right side when the time is right. But at the moment, it's probably the strongest I've felt in 18 months," he said.
His injuries mean he is still tentative about diving on the field, but is looking at other ways to make up ground.
"That’s why I’m feeling so good, because I haven’t thrown my body around ... I’ve learnt to stay on my feet, that’s why the mobility has to be strong. If I can’t dive then I have to make up ground otherwise."
If all – fitness and form, primarily – goes to plan for Lynn, he could well realise his dream of playing a World Cup, that too at home. The tournament gets under way on 18 October next year.
