Goswami eyeing direct route to 2021 Women's Cricket World Cup
Despite taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, holding onto a top-four place in the ICC Women's Championship is imperative to guarantee the fastest route to the tournament-proper, meaning no game is a dead rubber.
India currently lie safely in second behind Australia while England sit in seventh. Goswami might have 2021 in her sights, but finishing off an impressive series against England with a win is her main priority for now.
"What’s important is tomorrow’s match," said the 36-year old, who has 176 ODI caps to her name. "We must stick to our plan and what we are doing well. We just go through our own process and if you do well then maybe the result will be on our side.
"Every match is important because every match has points for the ICC Championship."
India are well-set to qualify in an automatic place, and playing in a positive manner while focusing solely on their own performances are ways in which Goswami believes India will succeed.
"We are just looking forward to each and every match and we want to do well because as a team we believe we need to go through to 2021 World Cup straightaway without playing qualifying rounds," she said. "For us, the main thing is to play positive cricket. Whatever isn’t in our control, we cannot focus on that, we just focus on whatever is in our control."
Goswami remains an essential cog in India's bowling line-up, despite the emergence of young new stars, and she credits her routine for her prolonged success in the international arena. Encouraging the more junior players to implement similar strategies is as far as her tutelage goes.
"I just try to do what I can do from my side. I’m trying my level best because as a senior player you have a lot of responsibility," she said. "Honestly speaking, I don’t tell anything to them (the young players), my routine has worked for the last 17 years for my team, whether I’m playing club cricket or state-level cricket or international cricket.
"For me, my routine is more important and if I am able to do all my stuff properly I know I’ll be more confident. I tell them it’s not about technique, it’s all about your process off the field."
India's third ODI against England takes place on Thursday 28 February at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
