Hagley Oval primed to open the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015
ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 Head of New Zealand Therese Walsh welcomed news of Hagley Oval’s role in the World Cup summer of cricket.
“It’s important for us that Hagley Oval and our other six New Zealand venues get run through their paces ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, but I’m also delighted for the people of Canterbury. Four years is a long time to wait for the return of international cricket and these matches will no doubt both be big occasions.”
“Hagley Oval is shaping up as a very special cricket venue, with a beautiful setting, great facilities and one of the best pitches in the country. Through these first two international fixtures and its big role in the tournament, I’m sure we’ll see it emerge as a venue that Cantabrians are extremely proud of and that international teams want to play at.”
In a busy home summer for New Zealand, South Africa tour in late October for three ODIs before Sri Lanka arrive in late December for two Test and seven ODIs, followed by Pakistan for two ODIs in late January.
In addition to the opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 on Saturday 14 February 2015 when New Zealand play Sri Lanka, Hagley Oval will also host Pakistan and the West Indies on Saturday 21 February as well as England and Scotland on Monday 23 February.
