Hong Kong Volunteers Awarded ICC Centenary Medal

ICC President David Morgan attends medal presentation for special volunteers

Five volunteers were presented with the ICC Centenary Medal by ICC President David Morgan and Asian Cricket Council Chief Executive Syed Ashraful Huq at a special presentation held at Hong Kong Cricket Club's Indoor Centre of Excellence on 11 January 2010.

George Lamplough, Anita Miles, Ravi Nagdev, Jawad Ashraf and Tony Turner were honoured with the medal which has been awarded to 1000 volunteers worldwide as part of the ICC's centenary celebrations in 2009.

The ICC Centenary Medal highlights the contribution that volunteers make to the sport. These people are crucial in preserving cricket's special values as well as sustaining and developing the game at the grassroots and nurturing the stars of the future.

George Lamplough - A major organiser behind improvements to the Hong Kong Cricket Club Gappers Junior Cricket Program which oversees the coaching of 200 cricketers under 13 years of age on Saturday mornings.

Mrs Anita Miles - A main driving force behind the creation of the Ladies League in Hong Kong. She has been the Convenor of HKCC Women's Cricket since 2001 and organised the two HKCC Teams that have been playing in the Ladies League since its commencement.

Ravi Nagdev - Co-founded the Little Sai Wan Junior Development Program and formed team in HKCA U11, U13, U15, U17, U19 Junior Leagues. Started women's cricket in the club. He led the re-drafting of the clubs constitution, procedures, rules and policies for the new millennium.

Jawad Ashraf - Worked voluntarily with Pakistan Association Cricket Club, Hong Kong from 1999 to 2005 as a member of the Executive Committee, and founded the Pakistan Association Junior Development Program with Najeeb Amar and formed team U11, U13, U15, U17, U19 to participate HKCA Junior Leagues.

Tony Turner - Has served the Little Sai Wan Cricket Club since 1965 in the capacity of player, groundsman, captain, and executive committee member, as president and currently as chairman. He has actively involved in day to day development of the club for decades and the work still continues.
