Host Hong Kong and Thailand remain unbeaten in women’s Asia qualifier
Host Hong Kong defeated China by 40 runs and Thailand beat Nepal by three wickets to notch their second successive wins in the ICC Women’s World Cup Asia Qualifier 2016 on Monday.
Electing to bat, Hong Kong scored 114 for six in 20 overs with captain Mariko Hill making a brisk 35 off 19 deliveries, while Sze Wan Yip was the next highest scorer with 26. China was all out for 74 in 18.5 overs in reply with left-arm spinner Chan Sau Har grabbing 3 for 15.
“It feels great, having two games in the bag out of six. The confidence of all the girls is high now. This is my home club, so playing on this ground is great - 35 off 19 or something like that was awesome. I just felt the ball come on to the ball very nicely,” Hill said.
In the other match, Chanida Sutthiruang struck a 32-ball knock of 23 not out to help chase a target of 77 with eight balls to spare. For Nepal, Nirmala Kumari produced an all-round effort of 37 and three for 15.
The winner of the four-team tournament, being played on a double-league format, will qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017.
