How the WT20Q warm-ups unfolded

Chamani Seneviratne makes her ground

With the World T20 Qualifier set to kick off on Saturday 7 July, this round of warm-up matches presented a chance for teams to get some vital match practice in and figure out their combiantions. Here's how they got on.

UAE v Uganda

United Arab Emirates warmed up for the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifier in positive fashion, defeating Uganda by 29 runs in Voorburg. UAE, who begin their campaign against the Netherlands on Saturday 7 July, scored 128/5 after Uganda won the toss and elected to field, with Chamani Senevirathne (55 from 45) top scoring.

Uganda scored 99/7 in reply, recovering from being 36/4 at one stage. Kavisha Kumari was the pick of the UAE bowlers, returning figures of 2/16 from four overs.

Thailand v Netherlands

Thailand will go into the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifier full of confidence after defeating the Netherlands by 46 runs in a warm-up match in Voorburg.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Thailand scored 138/7. Naruemol Chaiwai led the way with 39, with extras not far behind on 31.

The hosts never really got going in reply despite an aggressive 26 from their captain Heather Siegers and finished on 92/7. Suleeporn Laomi and Nattaya Boochatham each took two wickets for the visitors in a disciplined bowling display.

Bangladesh v Scotland

Tournament favourites Bangladesh confirmed their status with a thumping nine-wicket victory over Scotland in the first of two warm-up games at VOC in Rotterdam. Leg-spin accounted for five Scottish wickets as the European side were bowled out for 47, with Rumana Ahmed claiming 2/8 and Fahima Khatun a remarkable 3/1 from three overs. Nos.2 and 3 Lorna Jack (11) and Rachel Scholes (16) were the only Scots to reach double figures as Scotland suffered a collapse of 12/9 at the end of their innings.

Shamima Sultana edged the third ball of the reply behind to leave Bangladesh 0/1 and spark brief hopes of a Scottish comeback, before and unbroken 51-run stand between Ayasha Rahman (23) and Sharmin Sultana (18) saw Bangladesh to victory with nine wickets and exactly half their overs to spare.

Ireland v Papua New Guinea

Ireland’s warm-up clash against Papua New Guinea also stuck to the formbook as the Irish cruised to a comfortable eight-wicket win. Though they couldn’t match Bangladesh’s pyrotechnics with the ball – PNG batted through their 20 overs comfortably to finish with 106/4 – they restricted their opponents well enough before showing their class with the bat.

After Cecilia Joyce was dismissed early on for 3, Gaby Lewis and Clare Shillington put on a strong partnership to get Ireland close. The latter fell for 33, but the former raised her bat soon before hitting the winning runs, finishing 56 not out.
