Herschelle Gibbs scored 58 and left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha took three wickets Saturday to lead Deccan Chargers to a 12-run win over Mumbai Indians and stay unbeaten in the Indian Premier League.

The 22-year-old Ojha, who won the man-of-the-match award, claimed 3-21 to restrict the previously unbeaten Mumbai to 156-7 after Deccan had totaled 168-9 at Kingsmead.

Following Sanath Jayasuriya's dismissal in the second over, Ojha took the key wickets of Sachin Tendulkar (36 off 27 balls) and JP Duminy (47 off 40 balls) after the pair had out on 82 and threatened to take the match away from the Chargers.

Fidel Edwards took two wickets, trapping West Indies teammate Dwayne Bravo for 21 and having Abhishek Nayar caught on 10 by wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist.

Mumbai opening bowler Rudra Singh also took two wickets, removing Jayasuriya for 1 and Harbhajan Singh for 20.

Gilchrist commended his team's fielding.

"That's definitely an area we identified as a weakness last season and the boys worked very hard on it," he said.

Earlier, Gilchrist and Gibbs put on 63 before Bravo had Gilchrist caught by wicketkeeper Pinal Shah in the seventh over.

Dwayne Smith (35 off 22 balls) and Gibbs then added 61 before Smith was bowled by Jayasuriya while attempting to hit over long-on in the 13th over.

Gibbs was eventually run out by Bravo's throw to Zaheer Khan and Deccan lost wickets cheaply at the end, with the last six batsmen all going for single figures.

Gibbs stroked six boundaries and two sixes in 44 balls.

Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga took 3-19 and Bravo 3-34 for Mumbai.

Malinga bowled with good variation at the end and was mostly responsible for cleaning up the Deccan innings. He removed Venugopal Rao for 9, Ravi Teja for 9, and Edwards for 1.

Mumbai had its last match abandoned due to rain, and Tendulkar said that could have played a role in the defeat.

"The five to six days in between (games) was a factor," he said. "We did have net practice but match practice counts."
