ICC accepts KNCB’s explanation over Tim Gruitjers comments

The International Cricket Council (ICC) today confirmed that it contacted the Koninklijke Nederlandse Cricket Bond (KNCB) to seek a response to the allegations made by Tim Gruitjers on a social networking site in relation to his replacement in the Netherlands squad at the ICC World Twenty20 Bangladesh 2014.

Chairman of the Event Technical Committee, Geoff Allardice, said: “There is a procedure in place for teams to replace injured players with substitutes who are eligible and available.

“The KNCB followed that procedure by obtaining independent medical advice confirming an injury to Tim Gruitjers before requesting a replacement player. We are satisfied that the KNCB acted within the ICC’s tournament rules during this process.”

The ICC now considers the matter closed.
