ICC acknowledges passing of former Australia captain Arthur Morris

The International Cricket Council has expressed its condolences at the passing of Australia’s 24th Test captain, Arthur Morris, at the age of 93.

In a statement, the ICC said Arthur Morris was one of the legends of the previous century. “Arthur Morris was a highly talented and skilled left-handed opener who outscored Sir Don Bradman on the 1948 Ashes tour of England. On behalf of the cricket fraternity, the ICC offers its deepest condolences and sympathies to his wife Judith and Cricket Australia at these difficult times.”

On the 1948 Ashes tour, Morris finished with 696 runs in the Test Matches – 188 runs more than Bradman and the highest aggregate for anyone in the series as Australia retained the Ashes with a 4-0 victory. In a 46-Test career from 1946-1955, Morris stroked 3,533 runs, including 12 centuries and as many half-centuries. He led Australia in two Tests.
