ICC Chief Executive in Caribbean to herald ICC WT20 West Indies 2010 sales launch

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the regional Project Team for ICC World Twenty20 West Indies 2010 will celebrate the start of ticket sales for next year's tournament with a cocktail reception and Press conference at Kensington Oval in Barbados on Saturday night.

Featuring brief speeches by ICC Chief Executive, Mr. Haroon Lorgat and West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) President Dr. the Hon Julian R. Hunte, as well as an event update by Tournament Director, Mr. Robert Bryan, the evening will signal the beginning of the countdown to international cricket's premier Twenty20 tournament in the Caribbean.

Media from across the region - particularly from the host nations Barbados, Guyana, St. Kitts and St. Lucia - have been invited to attend this formal event where they will have an opportunity to hear officials elaborate on plans for the April 30 to May 16, 2010, showpiece in which a staggering 42 matches will be played in a whirlwind 15 days.

Other invited guests include Ministers of the Barbados Government, WICB directors, Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) board members and a number of cricketing personalities, including National Hero, the Right Excellent Sir Garfield Sobers, and legendary batsman Sir Everton Weekes.

"We are looking forward to showcasing what West Indians and other cricket fans around the world can expect come next May and, of course, we want to engage the regional media who are a critical stakeholder in this," outlined ICC WT20 West Indies 2010 Corporate Communications Manager, Ms Gayle Alleyne.

"Mr. Haroon Lorgat, the ICC's Chief Executive, will be arriving in the Caribbean today, to participate in this important event - the Ticket Sales Launch - on the eve of the start of ticket sales."

Thousands of tickets will go on sale on a 'first come, first served' basis online (www.iccevents.yahoo.com) from Sunday November 1st and from Monday November 2nd via ticket centres in five Caribbean countries: Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and St. Lucia. There is also an international call centre to accommodate the large volume of ticket sales expected (+44 207 998 3125).

"Preparations are going well for the start of ticket sales and we're looking forward to a strong response to some enticing ticket prices. We are confident the prices for this tournament will encourage fans to buy early. The highest ticket price is US$40 for the Finals - and when we say the Finals, we mean two finals on May 16th next year; the men's and women's," stressed Ms. Alleyne.

"Throughout the tournament that's what fans will get - two matches for the price of one ticket. As I said, the prices are great - starting from a low of US$5 for grounds tickets in First Round games.

"I think the fact that fans can choose which stand they want to sit in - and even the block of seats from which they want to view the action - will also be a big hit. Then there is also the Under-16 special of which families will want to take advantage.

"It's going to be a fantastic experience and with less than 200 days to go until the start, we're excited about the prospects for sold-out matches."
