ICC EAP Umpires Ready for Challenge
Vanuatu's Nigel Morrison and PNG's Clive Elley have been given the honour of representing the East Asia-Pacific region as umpires at events in New Zealand and Australia respectively this summer.
Morrison has been appointed to the New Zealand National Under 18 Championships to be held in Christchurch from 18-27 January 2012 and Elley will officiate the Australian Country Cricket Championships in Geelong starting on New Year's Day.
This is the 4th year that EAP has been invited to send an Umpire to attend both of these tournaments and previous attendees have been able to use the experience to progress their personal development.
"I am pleased to be umpiring at the NZ under 18's because I have always enjoyed being involved in development cricket," said an excited Morrison. "Also being a New Zealander by birth I will be especially keen to see what talent they have on the horizon."
ICC East Asia Pacific Umpires Manager Bob Parry says that umpires in the region that are provided with opportunities like this are expected to share the experience with their colleagues when they return to their homes countries.
"I am confident that this will be the case for this year's nominated umpires ? Clive Elly from PNG (ACCC) & Nigel Morrison from Vanuatu (NZ U/18's)," said Parry. "We congratulate them on their respective nomination and wish them well as they head overseas to represent EAP."
The ICC East Asia-Pacific would like to thank New Zealand Cricket and Cricket Australia for their ongoing support of the development of umpires in the East Asia-Pacific region.
