ICC GCA touches lives of workers

In a gesture that will go beyond mere appreciation, the International Cricket Council's Global Cricket Academy's Oval 1 ground hosted a tournament for construction workers.
Hundreds of construction workers fought keenly as they vied for top prize in the Speedy Challenge Charity Cricket tournament.
Speaking about the gesture, Miles Webb, operations support director Middle East and Northern Africa (Mena) Speedy International Assets Services, who took the initiative, said: "We believe that the spirit of cricket will improve our labourers' lives. They work long hours, remain away from families for long periods. This tournament was staged for labourers from companies all over the UAE and Mena region to come and enjoy the spirit of cricket," Webb was quoted as saying by Gulf News.
In the title round, Euphrates Tigers beat Speedy International Management team to win the tournament. The event also raised funds, the proceeds of which will be forwarded to an organisation or a group of people like an orphanage, school, to acquire hospital equipment and even in the implementation of a playground for a school lacking the facility.
Ekta Mangal Hutton, the Acting General Manager of the ICC Global Cricket Academy was also quoted as saying: "This event was in line with our plan to be actively involved with the community. The ground is open for everyone including corporate and all local teams and we are delighted to be associated with such ventures. We will always look forward for supporting such noble causes."
