Athletic Ellyse Perry saves the day for Australia in 2010 final against New Zealand

The title clash of the second edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup between Australia and New Zealand made for an edge-of-the-seat viewing, with the balance shifting to and fro right from the start. It all came down to the White Ferns needing 14 off the final over to be bowled by a teenaged Ellyse Perry, with another future star Sophie Devine joined by Liz Perry.

A single of the first ball and four doubles thereafter brought it down to Perry vs Devine for the definitive moment, with New Zealand needing five. Perry went full and straight and Devine middled a straight hit to perfection, only for Perry to fling out her boot and make a remarkable save with a combination of stunning reflexes and fine athleticism. Australia defended a low 106/8 to clinch the first of their five T20 World Cup titles till date.

Alyssa Healy dines out on India in 2020 final

Five years after her partner Mitchell Starc had set up Australia’s fifth Men’s World Cup title with a brilliant opening burst at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, Alyssa Healy treated a capacitated 85,000-plus crowd at the same venue with a stroke-filled masterclass, to inspire her side to a fifth T20 World Cup triumph.

Having raced to a 30-ball fifty by the halfway stage, Healy went 6, 6, 6 off Shikha Pandey, the last of which was the most emphatic of the lot. Healy just cleared her front leg and struck a full ball almost effortlessly for a brilliant six, as part of her game-defining 75(39). Australia finished 184/4, which was enough to secure a thumping 85-run win.

Harmanpreet Kaur smashes massive six on her way to a century against New Zealand in 2018

Harmanpreet Kaur was one of the standout batters at the 2018 edition in the West Indies, and finished as the second-highest run-scorer with 183 runs at a strike rate of 160.52. Her best was a stroke-filled 103 off 51 against New Zealand in Guyana, the first hundred by an India Women's batter in the format.

The standout stroke came against Amy Satterthwaite, with the batter dancing downtown to loft one straight towards the sight screen for almost a 90m hit. It was one of Harmanpreet’s eight sixes in a swashbuckling knock, almost reminiscent of her masterly 171* against Australia in the ODI World Cup semi-final less than a year earlier.

Poonam Yadav magic deceives Ellyse Perry in 2020

Wrist spinners’ often seek thrill in deceiving batters with their classic leg breaks, but India’s Poonam Yadav turned one the other way around to outsmart Ellyse Perry in an outstanding spell in the 2020 edition opener in Sydney.

Having had Rachael Haynes stumped off the previous ball off a googly, Poonam slipped another wrong'un to Perry right away, and the looped-up ball breached Perry’s defence as she danced downtown, and went through the bat-pad gap to rattle the stumps.

Poonam finished with 4/19 to power India to a 17-run win.
