India announce new ODI captain for the Australia series
Shubman Gill will lead the squad as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli return play their first international fixture since March.
Shubman Gill has been announced as India's new 50-overs captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, to lead the team in the three-match ODI series against Australia that is commencing on October 19.
Gill led India in the ICC World Test Championship series against England to a 2-2 draw, while finishing the series as the highest run-getter with 754 runs at an average of 75.40.
Experienced batters Rohit and Virat Kohli will return to the fold as batters.
Rohit and Kohli haven't been in action at international level since the ICC Champions Trophy event at the start of the year, but the pair will make their return to international cricket during the three-game ODI series against the Aussies that starts in Perth.

The cricketing greats have retired from T20I and Test cricket within the last 12 months, and will return to action for the much-anticipated three-match ODI series ahead of the next edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup at the start of 2027.
