India beat West Indies by 153 runs in the fourth ODI to seal a series victory in Indore.

The home side's triumph will forever be synonymous with a magnificent effort by captain Virender Sehwag, who set the highest individual ODI score of 219.

The right-hander went past compatriot Sachin Tendulkar's previous record of 200 during an innings that lasted 149 balls and included 25 fours and seven sixes.

Sehwag's day began well as he won the toss on a wicket that seemed ideal for batting.

The opener confirmed that belief alongside Gautam Gambhir, who added 176 for the first wicket.

Gambhir might also have posted a substantial contribution had his partner not sent him back after initially calling for a single. Marlon Samuels ran the left-hander out for 67 to offer the fielding side partial respite.

Sehwag, who had posted a 69-ball hundred the delivery before, then added 140 with Suresh Raina (55 off 44 balls).

Another run out accounted for Raina, who was short of his crease going for a second run.

Sehwag proceeded merrily along to his 200 when he carved a ball from Russell to the right of third man to move past Tendulkar's effort against South Africa at Gwalior in 2010.

The record-breaker finally went in the 47th over when he holed out to long off after a knock that will leave long in the memory of the partisan crowd.

Virat Kohli finished off the innings in style (23 not out off 11 balls) to take India to 418-5 - the highest ODI innings by India and the largest conceded by West Indies.

In reply, West Indies only threatened a challenge early on when Lendl Simmons (36 off 35) and Marlon Samuels (33 off 26) put on 50 for the second wicket.

Slow left-armer Ravindra Jadeja then broke the partnership before debutant leg-spinner Rahul Sharma claimed the next three wickets as he recorded figures of 3-43.

Wicketkeeper Denesh Ramdin (96) and Sunil Ramdin (27 not out) put on 64 for the last wicket but the game had long been over as a contest before the former was dismissed with four balls to spare.

Sehwag entered the match proclaiming the Indian top order - including himself - needed to contribute more heavily with the bat in this match.

He exited it having done his talking on the pitch.
