Iyer assessed after injury in Sydney ODI
The batter was taken off the field due to an injury after completing a catch during India’s nine-wicket win the final ODI.
The extent of Shreyas Iyer's rib injury sustained in the the third ODI is still uncertain, with the batter being monitored by India's medical team and specialists in Sydney.
Iyer sustained the injury completing the catch of Alex Carey, before escorted from the field after clutching to his left side.
The 30-year-old remains in a Sydney hospital as he continues to receive treatment.
“Scans have revealed a laceration injury to the spleen. He is under treatment, medically stable, and recovering well," the BCCI said in a statement.
"The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, is closely monitoring his injury status. The Indian Team Doctor will remain in Sydney with Shreyas to evaluate his day-to-day progress.”
Iyer had scored 11 and 61 in the first two games respectively, both of which the visitors lost. India notched a nine-wicket win in the final ODI, thanks to a Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli masterclass in the chase, as the hosts sealed the series 2-1.
Iyer is not part of India’s squad for the five-match T20I series Down Under, starting October 29.
India's next scheduled ODI assignment would be the three-match ODI series against South Africa which begins on November 30.
