India probables named for ICC Champions Trophy

The ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to get underway in Pakistan in September later this year. The Indian cricket team has listed 30 players as ‘probables’ for the upcoming ICC tournament.

What comes as a surprise is the omission of batting stalwarts Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid who have failed to find favour for the 50-over format of the game yet again. Younger players instead have been named in this 30-member squad.

Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli, Pankaj Singh and Abhishek Nayar are the complete newcomers on the list. The other names in the list include players like Mohammad Kaif and Murali Kartik who have been vying for a national spot time and again after they failed to maintain their place in the squad.

The rest of the line-up consists of a combination of players from the Indian Test and ODI set-ups excluding the Test specialists, Anil Kumble and VVS Laxman. Besides that, Munaf Patel who is named for the tour to Sri Lanka has also been omitted from the squad.

BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah convened over the meeting in which the players were announced. The meeting was held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai.
