India U19 star Pawan Shah’s 282 shatters records

Pawan Shah plundered 282 runs – the second-highest individual score in an Under 19 international match – as India piled Sri Lanka under a mountain of runs in the second clash of a two-match series.

The 18-year-old smoked 33 fours and a six during his 332-ball knock, helping push India’s total to 613/8 declared.

Coming in at No.3, Shah first combined with opener Atharwa Taide (177) for a 263-run stand for the second wicket, before adding 160 runs more with Nehal Wadhera (64).

However, he missed out on a triple century by 18 runs, and the Indians declared their innings closed soon after his fall.

Shah failed to beat the 304* scored by Clinton Peake – the highest score in an U19 international – against India in Melbourne in 1995. He does, however, hold the Indian record.

The highlight of Shah's innings was the six consecutive fours he scored in the 108th over off Vichithra Perera, the left-arm seamer.

Shah’s knock ensured that Sri Lanka, who lost the opening Test by an innings and 21 runs, are behind the eight-ball yet again.
