India wins Colombo ODI by 15 runs, takes 2-0 lead
Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma took four wickets to help his team to a 15-run victory over Sri Lanka in the second one-day international despite Thilina Kandamby's career-best score of 93 not out.
After Yuvraj Singh top-scored with 66 and shared an 85-run stand with Suresh Raina to guide India to 256-9, Sharma captured 4-57 as Sri Lanka was bowled out for 241 to trail 2-0 in the five-match series after losing its last three wickets to run outs.
Sri Lanka's openers started the chase aggressively but careless strokeplay soon landed their team in trouble to be 36-3. However, Kandamby and captain Mahela Jayawardena combined for a 100-run stand off 161 balls to bring their side back into the match.
Tillakaratne Dilshan was the first out, attempting a pull shot on 8 to be caught near the boundary by Sharma off seam bowler Zaheer Khan with the total on 15 in the third over at R.Premadasa Stadium.
Sanath Jayasuriya made 17 before he was caught in the deep off Sharma to make it 33-2 in the seventh over. Three runs later, Kumar Sangakkara (4) chased a ball outside off stump from Praveen Kumar and was caught by Sachin Tendulkar at slip.
Jayawardena, who had been in poor form, recorded his 49th ODI half-century to steady his team's innings. He made 52 off 75 balls before being caught at extra-cover by Yusuf Pathan off left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha.
Kandamby was then involved in a 51-run partnership with Chamara Kapugedera (31), but soon ran out of partners as his team lost its last five wickets for 35 runs. He hit nine boundaries in 129 balls.
Earlier, Yuvraj hit seven boundaries and a six in 88 balls and took India from 83-3 in the 13th over to 168 in the 32nd with Raina (29). Virender Sehwag had earlier hit 42 off 26 balls to set the momentum.
Medium-pacer Farveez Maharoof had the best bowling figures, taking 2-40 off 10 overs.
India leads the five match series 2-0.
