Injury woes compound for India in the Manchester Test

India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been taken for scans after he was hit on his foot during the Fourth Test against England.

Having already made forced changes to their lineup owing to injuries for the Manchester Test, India were handed another injury scare on the opening day’s play against England.

Rishabh Pant’s stay in the middle was cut short after he sustained a nasty blow to his feet off a Chris Woakes full-length delivery.

The incident occurred in the 68th over when Pant attempted to reverse sweep Woakes but instead nicked the ball onto his right foot.

The BCCI confirmed Pant had been taken for scans and are monitoring his progress.

The left-handed batter had accumulated 37 runs during his stay off 48 deliveries, which included two fours and a maximum.

India were already missing all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy and pacer Akash Deep in their lineup in Manchester after the duo picked up injuries in the lead up to the fourth Test.

Having lost the toss and being put in to bat first, India got off to a strong start on Day 1 with openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal adding 94 runs for the first wicket.

The hosts however, managed to claw their way back in with wickets in the second and the third session.

England lead 2-1 in the ongoing five-match ICC World Test Championship series.
