Opener Tamim Iqbal smashed an aggressive 151 and shared a 200-run partnership with Junaid Siddique Tuesday as Bangladesh fought back on the third day of the second and final cricket test against India.

Bangladesh cruised to 228-3 at stumps in the second innings, reducing the overall deficit from 311 to only 83. India declared the first innings on 544-8 after dismissing Bangladesh for 233.

The stand between Iqbal and Siddique is the highest ever for Bangladesh for any wicket.

Iqbal made 151 in 183 balls, including 18 boundaries and three sixes before he was caught behind off Zaheer Khan. But he took only 101 balls to reach his second test century _ the fastest by any Bangladeshi batsman.

Junaid (55) was also caught behind off Khan after he hit five boundaries from 144 balls.

The pair's fluent batting held back India's dash to finish the match early.

Khan ended the partnership and claimed both the wickets in two successive overs late in the third session. He returned figures of 3-63. Four other bowlers used by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni got no wicket.

India claimed Iqbal's opening partner Imrul Kayes for five when he was caught by substitute player Dinesh Karthik off Zaheer Khan (1-35).

Yuvraj Singh was to join unbeaten Pragyan Ojha (1) in the second session, but instead India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni elected to declare the innings due to soreness to Singh's elbow.

Resuming on the overnight score of 459-5, Dhoni smashed a half century before being stumped for 89 by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Raqibul Hasan just before lunch.

India also lost Khan for a duck, caught by Shahadat Hossain off Shafiul Islam (3-86). Ishant Sharma was caught behind by Rahim off Mohammad Ashraful for 13 runs.

Dhoni's 50 came off 84 balls and included seven boundaries and one six.

On Monday, Sachin Tendulkar smashed 143 while Rahul Dravid made 111 before retiring hurt after he was hit in the face by a short-pitched delivery.

Bangladesh was dismissed for 233 on the first day in its bid to level the series after India won the first test by 113 runs
