Ireland on top after win over the Danes

Todays victory showed that Ireland were a class better than the Danish who themselves did much better than expected. Denmark were happy to win the toss as they decided to bat and if in the case they were bowled out cheaply, then they knew the match would be over quickly and they could spare their strength to the match tomorrow against the Netherlands. As it turned out the Danes spent nearly all 40 overs at the crease and turned out a respectable total and big enough to secure a victory. The Irish bowling was not up to scratch giving away 33 wides.

Ireland got off to the best start possible taking a wicket on the very first ball as Rohit Kumar edge the ball from McCarter to slip. Things didn't get better for the Danes as Shear Mondozay ran nearly 2 lengths of a pitch as he ran himself out. But Christian Peck-Thorsted dug himself in and played on the defensive as the Danes clawed themselves out of more trouble. Christian held the innings together and after 20 overs he opened up more with some aggressive strokes. His 57 was the mainstay of the Danish innings but was supported by Siddique Raja and Saad Ahmed as the Danes totalled 174 with the last wicket falling in the last over.

Irelands class was more apparent when batting as Ireland got off to a great start. Captain Hugh McDonnell and Ben Wylie put on 57 for the first wicket. The Danish bowlers had great difficulty in bowling to a lefthander and this resulted in 42 wides. Moreover the Danish field placings could be questioned especially for the lefthanders as they scored runs on the leg side and later with the spinners on through longon. After Wylie's departure it was Andy McBrine who supported captain McDonnell as they cruised towards the Danish total. The Dansih spinners bowled well enough including Peck-Thorsted who had a long day but they couldn't penetrate the Irish batsmen who cruised home winning by eight wickets.
