Isle of Man record double victory over Spain in La Manga
The Isle of Man Senior Squad travelled to La Manga in Spain recently to play two one-day internationals against Spain as preparation for next year's Affiliates Division 3 Championships.
On the Saturday Spain won the toss and elected to bat. At 149-2 off 37 overs things were looking ominous for the Manx but Graeme Garrett (3-27) and Scott Pearce (3-30) restricted Spain to 204 all out in the 50th over. David Climent made 74 and Adam Johnson a powerful 45.
In reply the Isle of Man fell from 66-0 to 87-4 in the 28th over but Garrett joined Gareth Morris in a stand of 77 before Scott Pearce (14*) and Morris (85*) took the IOM to victory, Gareth Morris hitting the 4th ball of the 50th over for six to the delight of the IOM contingent. Sunday's game saw Rob Webber win the toss and elect to bat.
This paid off when Peter Richards (56) and Jon Norrington (56) put on 125 for the first wicket Then Gareth Morris added a quick 25 before Ollie Webster hammered 62* off just 29 balls to propel the IOM to 258-4. Scott Pearce ( 5-25 ) then ripped into the Spain top order before debutant Andy Sewell ( 5-22 ) wrapped the innings up for 85 to give the Isle of Man a 173 run victory in a near perfect performance. Only David Climent who carried his bat for 41* resisted.
The IOM team were delighted by their performance and most grateful to George Wambeek and the Spanish Association for kindly hosting this most enjoyable trip at such a wonderful venue.
