James Anderson to miss Headingley Test, gets chance to prove fitness

England have opted to go into the third Ashes Test unchanged after a stunning performance at Lord's, which ended in a draw mainly due to a big portion of the game getting washed out.

That means Anderson, the world's most prolific fast bowler, will miss out again, but England revealed that he's making progress in his recovery from calf injury and will play a match for Lancashire Second XI against Leicestershire starting 20 August to prove his fitness ahead of the remaining two Ashes Tests.

Jofra Archer, who made a stunning impact with his pace in his debut Test at Lord's, had gone through a similar route to prove his fitness ahead of the game by playing a game for Sussex Second XI.

Anderson was in the XI for the first Test at Edgbaston, but was only able to send down four overs before a calf injury, which kept him out of the Test against Ireland at Lord's, flared up again. He will be keen to prove his match-readiness in the second XI game, ahead of the fourth Test at Old Trafford – his home ground – starting on September 4.
