Jersey applies for Associate membership

Jersey has submitted an application to the ICC to become Europe's 11th Associate member country.
The decision follows the Associate/Affiliate Members' Formal Meeting at Annual Conference in July 2006, where it was noted that the previously problematic interpretation of the "playing standard" criterion had to be dealt with immediately.
Jersey are one of two ICC Affiliate members (the other being Vanuatu of the East Asia-Pacific Region) who have submitted applications for Associate membership. The Jersey Cricket Board has been given the opportunity to meet the new playing standard criteria recently adopted by ICC, by 31 May 2007 and if successful its application will be considered at the next ICC Annual Conference in June 2007.
This decision is good news for Jersey, who is set to compete in Division 5 of the World Cricket League in 2008.
Chris Minty, Jersey's Director or Cricket, reports,
"It is a little early to say what impact the Associate membership status, if granted, will have on our performance in Division 5, but it will allow us to consolidate our development projects so that we can continue producing local cricketers and provide them with more playing opportunities."
