Jofra Archer prepares for bow in ‘preferred format’

“I’ve played a lot more red-ball cricket than I have white-ball. I do think it’s my preferred format,” the 24-year-old told reporters on Monday.

“I personally believe in Test cricket you get a lot more opportunities to redeem yourself. In 50 overs, if you don’t have a good 10 overs that’s it – you’ve got wait till the next game. You have ample chances to do it in the red-ball game.

“Test cricket is pretty much almost the same thing as first-class. You know what you’ve got do, you know what your strengths are and to just stick to them.”

So far in his international career, Archer has only turned out for England in the limited-overs arena, and with incredible success, too. England’s leading wicket-taker at the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, the quick has taken to the highest stage like a duck to water, his 23 ODI wickets coming at an average of 24.73.

Nonetheless, Australia coach Justin Langer has discussed how Australia will look to wear down Archer, with Langer “curious” about how the bowler will fare with the red ball.

"He's played one red-ball game in 11 months. He's a very skilled bowler and a great athlete. But Test cricket is very different to white-ball cricket.”

Archer suggested he is more than up for the challenge.

“I’m probably more ready than I’ve ever been…I’m usually the one bowling the most overs anyway so I think Justin Langer has another think coming!”

The second Test begins at Lord's on Wednesday, 14 August.
