Karim sets up Kenya win with first ODI hundred
Kenya's 20-year-old Irfan Karim hit his first ODI hundred to help his side register a comprehensive six-wickets win over Canada in the second One-Day International at the ICC Global Cricket Academy (GCA) Oval 1 on Wednesday.
Karim, son of former Kenya captain Asif Karim, hit 112 off 137 balls with 11 boundaries, his first in ODI cricket, to star in a high-scoring contest.
Canada opted to bat first and ended up at 253 for nine in its 50 overs and Kenya chased down the target in 48 overs to end at 254 for four.
Captain Rizwan Cheema was the top-scorer for Canada with 55 off 66 balls with eight boundaries and a six.
The other high contributor in the Canada innings was Raza-ur-Rehman (51: 52b, 6x4).
Damodar Daesrath (40) and Hiral Patel (36) were the key contributors in Canada innings.
For Kenya, Nehemiah Odhiambo (2-54), James Ngoche (2-61) and skipper Collins Obuya (2-15) were the key wicket-takers.
Kenya's chase was fashioned by Karim, playing just his fourth ODI. Karim first added 78 runs for the second wicket with Morris Ouma (34).
Then Karim added 117 runs for the third wicket with skipper Obuya (57:73b, 5x4) to put Kenya on track.
Both Karim and Obuya fell close to Kenya nearing victory.
