Kenya claims series 2-1
Collins Obuya and Alex Obanda put on 143 runs for the second wicket to lead Kenya to a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Afghanistan in the third and final One-Day International at the Nairobi Gymkhana on Sunday. With this win, Kenya wrapped up the three-match series 2-1.
Afghanistan, opting to bat first, made 188 from 43 overs. But the hosts chased down the target in 41.3 overs.
Afghanistan slipped to 88 for six in the 24th over. Mohammad Nabi then led a recovery of the Afghanistan batting with a 69-ball 60 with three boundaries and three sixes. Nabi was the ninth man out in the 38th over, before the tail wagged for a bit. For Kenya medium-pacers Elijah Otieno (2-54) and Nehemiah Odhiambo (2-18), off-spinner James Ngoche (2-34) were the best bowlers on view.
In the chase Obanda (77: 116b, 6x4, 2x6) and Collins Obuya batted brilliantly to resist any hopes of an Afghan fightback. Collins Obuya remained unbeaten on 86 off 96 balls with nine boundaries and a six when the winning runs was scored.
