Kingma hat-trick sets up big Netherlands win
Netherlands celebrated its ICC World Cricket League Championship triumph and elevation to the ICC ODI league with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Namibia in its final match of the tournament on Friday (December 8).
After bowling Namibia out for just 181 in 36.4 overs, Netherlands eased past the target in 41.1 overs at the ICC Academy Ground No. 2 in Dubai. Ryan ten Doeschate shined with an unbeaten knock of 65, but it was Vivian Kingma who set the match up for the side taking six wickets including a hat-trick.
On being put in, Namibia started on the wrong foot against Kingma. The right-arm seamer took three early wickets as the opponent slipped to 39 for 3 inside 10 overs.
Netherlands v Namibia - Vivian Kingma's brilliant hat-trick
Gerhard Erasmus battled hard to rescue Namibia but fought a lone battle for most part. Only Zane Green and Sarel Burger passed 20. Erasmus shepherded his side to 165 for 6 with a 75-ball 81, but Kingma then ran rampage with a hat-trick in the first three balls of the 34th over to finish with 6 for 39.
Namibia's bowlers threw everything to try and defend the small total, but were simply short of runs in the end. Burger bowled economically and dismissed Max O'Dowd and Wesley Barressi, the openers. Craig Williams chipped in with wickets of Ben Cooper and Peter Borren.
Netherlands seemed a tad shaky at 105 for 5, but ten Doeschate proved to be a class apart in his 58-ball stay. Roelof van der Merwe provided him support at the other end with a 26-ball 17 not out.
Netherlands had already secured an unassailable advantage at the top of the points table in the previous match against the same opponent on Wednesday.
