Kuwait coach Basil Jayawardene is banking on the rapid improvements made by his side in the last one year to come in handy at the ACC Twenty20 Cup.
Kuwait will compete with nine other teams to have the right to be part of the ICC World Twenty20 2012 Qualifier to be held in UAE in March 2012.

Afghanistan has already booked its place, but three other sides will have an opportunity to book a place at the global qualifier.

?We have been doing well since I have taken over in September 2010. We have done well in World Cricket League Division 8, 7 and 6. It has been an enjoyable journey. I expect our side to keep giving a good account of themselves at the ACC Twenty20 Cup as well,?? said Jayawardene.

Jayawardene is a former member of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) side from 1995 to 1997. Jayawardene was also part of the UAE squad under Sultan Zarwani at the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1996.
Currently the coach of Kuwait, Jayawardene has also done coaching stints in his native Sri Lanka.

The Kuwait squad has been preparing for the ACC Twenty20 Cup by playing matches every Friday night.

?We train for five days of the week under lights. Thereafter we play matches every Friday since it is a holiday. It has been some very good preparation for us for the tournament,?? added Jayawardene.

For the ACC Twenty20 Cup, Kuwait has chosen a few young players. Jaywardene is hoping that the young group will add to the fielding of the squad during the tournament.

?The best part for us is that the
weather and conditions in Nepal is similar to Kuwait. So we can adjust pretty quickly to the conditions there. That will come in handy as we chase our dream to play at the world stage. If we make it to the ICC World Twenty20 2012 then it will be a dream come true,?? concluded Jayawardene.
