Live Blog: Medal Day Pacific Games
5:40pm The medal ceremony has just been completed here. Star performers in that innings were
PNG: John Boge Reve 4-8, and Jason Kila 2-21.
Fiji: Jo Rika 21
It's been a great week and congratulaitons to PNG. A full match report will be on the site shortly.
4:40pm: and that's it PNG are Gold Medal Winners Again!
4:35pm: Last over. Fiji has 2 wickets in hand. Can they bat it out.
Fiji 8-79 off 19 overs.
4:31pm: Apologies the last wicket to fall was Yabaki. Lomani is still there. Fiji 8-73 off 18 overs
4:28pm: John Boge Reva Strikes again removing Lomani caught behind after a tidy catch from Vare.
Fiji 8-66 off 17 overs
4:20pm Such a dominant display from PNG. 7 wickets down for Fiji now. Boge has once again shattered the stumps!
Poor Lomani keeps getting stuck at the non-strikers end forced to watch his teammates drop like flies.
Fiji 7-58 off 14 overs
4:15pm: John Boge Reva has become the destroyer for PNG. Clean bowling both Jo Rika and Maciu Guana in a sensational over.
Lomani still trying hard for Fiji. He just put one 30 metres over the boundary but it is all in vain for Fiji.
Fiji 6-51 off 13
4:01pm: Joel Tom has really slowed down both Rika and Kida and the total certainly now looks out of Fiji's reach if it didn't already at the start of the innings.
Fiji 2-40 off 10 overs
3:50pm Rika looks set for a captains knock after another big 4, however he'll need more support than he is getting now as Seru now finds himself back in the shets as well.
Fiji 2-30 off 6.3
3:40pm Nice recovery after the early wicket loss for Fiji. Rika and Seru doing well. Rika just played a ripper over mid-on.
Fiji 1-22 off 5 overs. Will need to lift the run rate however.
33:33pm: Pipi Raho has forced a missed timed shot from Sekove thanks to some tight bowling and Fiji has lost their first wicket. 1-9 off three overs
3:15pm: Top performers in that innings.
A Vala 67 and J Vare 39 for PNG
J Kida 2-24 and V Yabaki 2-26 for Fiji
3:07pm: A big last over from Mahuta Kivung including a monster 6 has seen PNG finish 6-172 off 20 overs
2:52pm: Bang! Kila smashing a 4 just metres passed Lomani just to rub a little salt in the wound.
PNG 4-152 off 18 overs
2:51pm: Jason Kila was just dropped on the fence by Lomani. The ball was really moving but should have been caught. I'm guessing he will make them pay.
2:48pm: A beautiful contrast in stroke play today from the PNG boys. Vala was striking the ball harder and cleaner than you are likely to see anywhere in the world and now the captain Vare is timing the ball magnificently and just guiding it along the ground to the fence at will.
PNG 4-136 off 16 overs
2:40pm: Vala is out LBW off the bowling of Taniela. However Jack Vare has decided he wants some of the glory as well with several shots to the boundary on the leg side.
Joining Vare at the crease is Jason Kila so Fiji still have a lot of work to do over the last 5 overs to keep themselves in this game.
PNG 4-121 off 15 overs
2:27pm Vala is the key wicket for Fiji. If he stays in until near the end we may see a score close to 200. Get him out soon and Fiji will push to restrict the gold medal favourites to under 150
PNG 3-99 off 12 overs
2:22pm Amazing atmosphere here today. The grandstand is full and the local crowd have adopted a team each. It's about 50% PNG and 50% Fiji.
2:20pm: Kida strikes again to remove Vagi caught behind but Vala continues to cause all sorts of issues for Fiji as he seems to find the fence every couple of deliveries.
PNG 3-85 off 10
2:05pm Vani Vagi and Assad Vala starting to settle in. Not as much big hitting but I get the feeling it is not far away.
PNG 2-67 off 7.3 overs
1:55pm: Interesting start here. Assad Vala is belting them all over the park but he is getting little support with Kida bowling well to dismiss Kapena not long after Ura also skied one.
PNG 2-43 off 5 overs.
1:10pm: Jo Rika has won the toss and Fiji will bowl in the gold medal match against PNG
11:50am: Natapei just missed his 50 ended 44 not out and Smith was 33 not out.
Stay tuned for PNG v Fiji in about 1.5 hours time as they battle for gold
11:30 Vanuatu has won the bronze medal! chasing down the score in the 10th over with 10 wickets in hand.
11:20am: The only thing that will deny Natapei or Smith a half century is each other. Not enough runs to chase.
Vanuatu 0-71 off 8 overs. 15 to win
11:12am: The runs continue here at Terrain de Cricket. Lenical looks keen of making a half century.
Vanuatu 0-61 off 6.2 overs
11:00am: This game is going to be over very quickly. Lenica Natapei and Damien Smith are smashing them all over the park with a good mix of strokes.
Vanuatu 0-47 off 4.1 overs
10:35am: Good performances in that innings were as follows.
New Caledonia Nasalio Gathuhau made 28.
Vanuatu Andrew Mansale 2-6, Simpson Obed 2-12, Patrick Matautaava 2-13.
10:30am: New Caledonia has finished their 20 overs 9-85. A good effort to bat through but probably not enough runs to really challenge for bronze here today. Vanuatu shared the wickets around nicely. Detailed stats to follow soon.
10:10am: Patrick Matautaava just hit the stumps so hard they nearly speared his keeper Lenica. Fuimaono is out and New Caledonia are 6-72 off 16.2
10:07am: As seems to happen so often after Simpson Obed is brought into the attack a wicket follows soon after. They should bowl this guy more often he is a gun. Folituu on his way back to the sheds caught behind of Obed.
New Caledonia 5-72 off 16 overs
10:05am: Kalepo Folituu and Falaone Fuimaono doing well for New Caledonia. A very stubborn batting performance that is clearly frustrating this Vanuatu side who would love to keep the hosts under 100.
New Caledonia 4-71 off 15 overs
9:55am: The run rate has slowed a little thanks to another wicket. New Caledonia are now 4-63 off 13 overs. It's been the spin of Mansale and Chilia that has got Vanuatu back on top. Patrick and Kenny have not troubled the batsman much with their pace today.
9:40am: Vanuatu have fought back with three wickets. 2 to Andrew Mansale including clean bowling New Caledonia's captain Nasalio Gathuhau with a cracking delivery. Jelany Chilia has the other wicket.
New Caledonia 3-48 off 11 overs
9:20am: Vanuatu are looking a little disorganised today with some loose bowling and slopping fielding. As a result New Caledonia are taking advantage and have moved to 0-39 off 6 overs.
We may have a game on our hands here.
8:45am: New Caledonia has won the toss and elected to bat.
8:10am: Welcome to Terrain de Cricket on another beautiful day in Noumea. I'm running out of words to describe this wonderful weather that New Caledonia seems to turn on day after day!
It's medal day here and first up for bronze we have Vanuatu taking on the hosts New Caledonia in front of what is expected to be a huge crowd.
Then this afternoon, can Fiji cause one of the biggest upsets in East-Asia Pacific History and knock off PNG for gold? Or will PNG create some history of their own with a 6th straight Pacific Games title?
