LIVE: Rain halts play in CWC25 opener, India lose Mandhana

Persistent drizzle forced a stoppage in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 opener between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati. Before the break, at the end of the 10 overs mark, Sri Lanka’s bowlers had kept a firm grip on proceedings.

Sri Lanka dealt India an early blow as Udeshika Prabodani nabbed the important wicket of Smriti Mandhana in their opener.

The in-form India opener tried to clear the off side early on in the powerplay, but ended up slicing the delivery to deep cover where Vishmi Gunarathne held on after a juggle.
