LIVE: Fired-up Sri Lanka take upper hand against England

The ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight continues on Sunday, with Sri Lanka and England locking horns in Kandy.

On their recent white-ball tour to the Asian country, England defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 in the T20I series and will look to continue the momentum.

Both teams have lost a match each in the group stage before progressing to the Super Eights. However, Sri Lanka will take heart from the fact that the last time they played at this venue, they scored a memorable eight-wicket win over former champions Australia.

Jos Buttler's agonising stay at the wicket ended as he fell lbw to Dunith Wellalage after an attempted switch hit while Jacob Bethell was dismissed after taking a wild swing on the first ball off Maheesh Theekshana. England had only 37/2 to show in powerplay. Tom Banton added to the early nerves as he was run out, courtesy a direct hit from skipper Dasun Shanaka.

The home team is growing in confidence, and have rotated their spin options, in conducive conditions, superbly to keep England under check. Opener Phil Salt is the only one, so far, who has withstood the pressure, bringing up a half-century off 36 balls.
