Major blow to England as batter out of international summer
Former England captain targeting return for ICC Women’s World Cup later this year.
Former England Women’s captain Heather Knight has been ruled out of the upcoming international summer and The Hundred 2025 due to a significant tendon injury in her right hamstring.
An MRI scan confirmed the extent of the injury, which will sideline the experienced batter through the summer of cricket for England. Knight will now undergo further assessment with the England Women’s medical team to determine the appropriate course of treatment and rehabilitation.
Knight aggravated her troublesome hamstring while batting in the final match of the T20I series against the West Indies, which England clinched 3-0.

She top-scored with an unbeaten 66 off 47 balls as England sealed the series sweep, but the effort came at a price as she was unable to take the field afterward due to the injury.
England have already roped in Alice Capsey and Lauren Filer as injury replacements for the ODI series against the West Indies.
Although no timeline has been confirmed for her return, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have expressed hope that Knight will be available for selection ahead of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to take place in India later this year.
Knight’s absence will be a significant blow to England, both on and off the field as the Three Lions look to bounce back in their new era with Charlotte Edwards as Head Coach and Nat Sciver-Brunt taking over as the England captain.
