Marcus Stoinis named Player of the Tournament for BBL 2019/20

The award was determined based on votes by the umpires after the 56-match league stage. Stoinis topped the batting charts, scoring 612 runs in 15 games, including one hundred and five half-centuries, at an average of 55.63.

The Stars opener became only the second player to pass 600 runs in a single BBL season, and is only 26 runs behind D'Arcy Short's record tally. Stoinis' batting exploits have guided his side to the finals week, and Stars are just one game away from making it to this year's final.

Stoinis, who finished atop the leaderboard with 26 votes, said that he is "honoured" to have been voted as the Player of the Tournament, adding, “I love playing for the Melbourne Stars. This team is special to me and I love having the opportunity to run out onto the field with them.

“We’ve got a big match against the Sydney Thunder on Thursday night and I hope to see our Team Green fans at the MCG to help get us over the line.”

Stars will face Sydney Thunder on Thursday, 6 February, and the winner will take on Sydney Sixers in the final on Saturday.
