Media accreditation process opens for ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018

The media accreditation process for the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 is now open. This is a single-stage online process that can be completed by clicking here.

The 16-team tournament will be staged in New Zealand from 13 January to 3 February across seven venues in four cities – Christchurch, Queenstown, Tauranga and Whangarei.

As part of the accreditation process, applicants will need to upload the following documents:

  1. Colour headshot photograph with a plain background (like a passport photo) (.jpg file, maximum 2 MB in size)
  1. Scanned copy of the photo page of valid passport (.pdf file, maximum 2 MB in size)
  • Letter of approval/assignment from their editor on official letterhead (.pdf file, maximum 2 MB in size)

Members of the media who intend to cover this event from the venues are advised to submit their applications by close of business hours (17h00 Dubai time) on Thursday, 30 November 2017.

Upon request, applicants whose accreditation applications are approved, will be provided with a letter in support of their visa application.

The ICC reserves the right to approve/reject/request further information on all applications in its sole discretion and without providing reasons for doing so.

Applicants are advised to carefully read the Media Accreditation Terms and Conditions, and also refer to the FAQs document to avoid any misunderstandings or inconvenience. Both the documents are attached here and also available in the Resources section of the Online Media Zone.

Breaches of the Media Accreditation Terms and Conditions may result in accreditations being revoked at the discretion of the ICC.

ABOUT THE ICC U19 CRICKET WORLD CUP

  • The ICC U19 tournament, which is held every two years, replicates a major global tournament experience in terms of organisation
  • This is the 12th edition of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup and the third time it is being held in New Zealand
  • Players born on or after 1 September 1998 are eligible to participate in the tournament
  • Group A comprises the Windies, New Zealand, South Africa and Kenya; Group B is formed by Australia, India, PNG and Zimbabwe; Group C consists of Bangladesh, Canada, England and Namibia; Group D comprises Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Ireland
  • According to the event format, the top two sides from each group will advance to the Super League while the remaining eight teams will figure in the Plate Championship. The preliminary round matches will be followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals, plus the play-offs.
  • Among the former greats to have featured in ICC U19 Cricket World Cups include: Michael Clarke (Australia), Michael Atherton (England), Virender Sehwag (India), Brendon McCullum (New Zealand), Inzamam-ul-Haq (Pakistan), Graeme Smith (South Africa), Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) and Brian Lara (Windies)
  • Some of the current stars, who have graduated from the ICC U19 Cricket World Cups, are: Steve Smith (Australia), Mushfiqur Rahim (Bangladesh), Joe Root (England), Virat Kohli (India), Kane Williamson (New Zealand), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Pakistan), Hashim Amla (South Africa), Dinesh Chandimal (Sri Lanka), Jason Holder (Windies) and Graeme Cremer (Zimbabwe).
