Moeen Ali has been omitted from England's squad in place of left-arm spinner Jack Leach.

The Worcestershire player struggled with both bat and ball in the first Test at Edgbaston, scoring just 0 and 4 and returning 3/172 from 42 overs across the match. In contrast, Nathan Lyon, Australia’s off-spinner took nine wickets in the match and bowled with superb control, going at under three runs an over in both innings.

Leach last played for England against Ireland in July, when he was Player of the Match at Lord's after hitting 92 as an opening batsman.

James Anderson and Olly Stone are both ruled out of the Test with injury. Anderson sustained a calf injury in the early stages of the first Test at Edgbaston and Stone injured his back whilst training for Warwickshire.

Squad: Joe Root (c), Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler (wk), Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes
